Ubisoft Expands Web3 Presence with Champions Tactics Avatars in The Sandbox
Ubisoft, the powerhouse gaming brand behind Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, is making another major move in the metaverse. This week, the company will launch a new series of NFT avatars in The Sandbox, an Ethereum-based virtual world. Unlike previous releases, these avatars are inspired by Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, Ubisoft’s original Web3-native game.
Ubisoft’s Champions Tactics NFTs Arrive in The Sandbox
The new Champions Tactics NFT avatars will be available on Wednesday, January 29, via the Ethereum scaling network Polygon. Early buyers on the allowlist can purchase the avatars for 170 SAND ($88), while the public sale price is set at 180 SAND ($93) for any remaining assets.
Each buyer will receive not only an avatar playable in The Sandbox—a metaverse experience featuring partnerships with brands and celebrities like Snoop Dogg and The Smurfs—but also three Champions characters for use in Champions Tactics, Ubisoft’s turn-based strategy game for PC.
Ubisoft’s Growing Web3 Footprint
Ubisoft has previously introduced its Rabbids characters from the Rayman series into The Sandbox, followed by avatars from the Netflix animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, a show inspired by the Far Cry franchise. The Captain Laserhawk series even led to the launch of a blockchain game, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., in December, with NFT access passes minted on Arbitrum.
Why Ubisoft is Betting Big on Web3
As one of the biggest traditional gaming companies embracing blockchain technology, Ubisoft is making significant strides in the Web3 space. Through original blockchain games like Champions Tactics, collaborations with The Sandbox, and investments in NFT projects, Ubisoft is solidifying its position at the forefront of gaming’s next evolution.
By integrating blockchain-based assets into major gaming ecosystems, Ubisoft is creating new opportunities for digital ownership, interoperability, and metaverse engagement. With these latest NFT avatars, the company continues to bridge the gap between mainstream gaming and decentralized technologies.
